Employee Health and Wellness Expo
Downstate’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) held its first Employee Health & Wellness Expo on May 3. The purpose of the Expo was to bring awareness to employees regarding their benefits, resources, and to “Take Action in Living a Healthier You—Encompassing Mind, Body and Soul.” EAP's aims to improve the health and wellbeing of our employees. Over 140 staff members signed-up for the event. Twenty-nine vendors participated, including external organizations and internal departments.
Activities consisted of an exercise class (ShapeUp NY), a yoga session, massages, stress testing, blood pressure testing, healthy food demonstration, fire safety demonstration, weight management, and smoking cession consultations. The Student Center also raffled a six-month gym membership that was won by Victor Ruiz in the Office of Student Admissions.
In attendance were Sean Harrington, EAP Regional Representative and Belinda Davis, EAP Coordinator for Kings Borough Psychiatric Center.
I want to thank participants and volunteers (Tahitia Williams, Shaundelle Goldsmith, Jacqueline Alvarez, Stephanie Marcel, Yvette Wearing, and Edeline Mitton) for their time and effort to make this important Expo happen. Kudos to Betty Jung, RN, Director for Center for Community Health Education and Promotion, and to Adam Burgman, Assistant Director of Student Activities for their support. Special thanks to Magda Alliancin, EdD, EAP Coordinator for her leadership.
