Office of Academic Affairs (OAA)

Welcome

The Office of Academic Affairs is led by Dr. Pascal James Imperato, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer.  Dr. Imperato is responsible for oversight of academic programs in all the schools that make up SUNY Downstate Medical Center:

  • School of Health Professions
  • College of Nursing
  • College of Medicine
  • School of Graduate Studies
  • School of Public Health

 

The Centerwide Office of Academic Affairs is responsible for the organization and coordination of central academic functions for the five schools at SUNY Downstate Medical Center.

These functions include the following:

  • Liaison with the State Education Department (SED)
  • Liaison with SUNY System, the SUNY Office of the Chancellor and the SUNY Office of the Provost
  • Drafting and/or submitting Academic Accreditation documents to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) for the Medical Center
  • Assisting the individual colleges and schools at SUNY Downstate with evaluation and data collection activities through its Office of Evaluation, Outcomes Assessment and Faculty Development
  • Assisting the individual colleges and schools at SUNY Downstate with drafting and submitting accreditation documents to their specialty accreditation agencies, e.g. the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH)
  • Oversight of the following departments in the Medical Center:
  • Center for Healthcare Simulation
  • Continuing Medical Education (CME)
  • Division of Student Affairs
  • Medical Research Library of Brooklyn
  • Office of Academic Support Services and Advisement (OASSA)
  • Office of Evaluation, Outcomes Assessment and Faculty Development (OEOAFD)
  • Coordination and submission of packets for the SUNY Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence and the Distinguished Faculty Ranks nominees
  • Coordination and submission of packets for candidates for Honorary Degrees given at Commencement
