The Department of Pediatrics offers a full range of services for children and adolescents in both general pediatrics and various subspecialties. Well child care, including guidance for immunizations for infants and school checkups, constitutes part of our primary care service. Care for minor illnesses is also readily available. Subspecialists in adolescent medicine, child development and developmental disabilities, critical care, cardiology, neonatology, pulmonary diseases, gastroenterology, genetics and genetic counseling, hematology/oncology, nephrology, endocrinology, allergy and immunology, and infectious diseases provide comprehensive services for diagnostic appraisals and acute and chronic pediatric care. All of the physicians in the department are board certified.
The department’s physicians provide a wide range of services for diseases of the heart, lungs, blood, kidneys and all of the other body systems.

ADOLESCENT MEDICINE

Our Division of Adolescent Medicine provides comprehensive care for all teenagers aged 10 through 21 years. In addition to providing immunizations and physical examinations to healthy adolescents, our adolescent clinics provide care for teenagers with acute and chronic medical illnesses, substance use/abuse problems, gynecological/contraception concerns, and evaluation of sexually transmitted diseases.

The Division of Pediatric Critical Care provides a full range of critical care service to pediatric patients. Care is provided in a fully equipped Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. In addition to 24-hour resident coverage, the unit is staffed by nurses, physician assistants, and respiratory therapists with specialized training in the care of critically ill children. A team of board certified pediatric intensivists is available at all times to provide and supervise the care of the patients admitted to the service. The team is supported by a complete complement of pediatric medical and surgical subspecialists.

The Division of Pediatric Pulmonary Diseases provides comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and care to all children with acute or chronic disease of the upper and lower respiratory tract. It has comprehensive pediatric pulmonary function, sleep apnea and exercise physiology laboratories. In addition, the division has a very active fiberoptic bronchoscopy program. The Pediatric Asthma Center of Excellence, where children with difficult, hard-to-manage asthma are evaluated and treated, is also under the jurisdiction of the division.
