SUNY Downstate SesquicentennialBuilding a Legacy for the FutureSesquicentennial Adopt A Shelter DriveGood Day Downstate!I am writing to you on behalf of the Special Events Sub-Committee of the Sesquicentennial Committee. As most of you know by now, SUNY-Downstate is celebrating the 150th year of the establishment of the College of Medicine. Many events have been planned in connection with the Sesquicentennial year. One of these planned events, for the month of November is the adoption of a shelter. This special event has been timed to coincide with the beginning of the holiday season, when we gather with family and friends to give thanks for our blessings. We ask for your participation in this event and know that it can be as simple as going to your closet or dresser drawer and pulling out all those clothing items that you know you won't wear anymore, and bringing them in to donate. Urban Strategies is the organization we are collaborating with this year. They cater to three shelters. One shelter is for babies/infant/toddlers; the other is for 1 or 2 parent families; the last is for families that have about 10 people or more per household. They do an outstanding job, and they need our help even more this year during these difficult economic times. Please begin to gather whatever you would like to donate to those in need. They will accept gently used items including men's and women's clothing and shoes, children's clothes, shoes, books, games, and toys. As there is no room to store anything on campus, please bring your donations (in heavy duty secured bags) in on the pick up day only, which will be TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 24TH AT 11 A.M. at the 395 Lenox Road entrance to the HSEB.
