The Student Center, located at 394 Lenox Road, is the focal point of campus social, cultural and recreational activities. The Center provides rooms for meetings and small lounges for reading or just relaxing. Two pianos are available as well as a VCR/TV with satellite antennae.
Recreational facilities include a gymnasium (equipped with stage for use as an auditorium), swimming pool, sauna, hot tub, squash courts, an outdoor tennis court, video games, billiards and table tennis. Physical fitness equipment includes a Universal gym, bar bells, and an array of body building and aerobic exercise machines. Students are automatically members. Spouses and children may be included for an additional fee.

How to Register to Vote in NY State
• You can register in person at your county board of elections
• or at any New York State Agency-Based voter registration center.
• or pick up a voter registration form in the Student Center or the Registrar's Office
• or print off the registration form here (adobe acrobat required)
• or you can call our 1-800-FOR-VOTE hotline to request a voter application.
The University Bookstore (718 270-2486), Theater Ticket Service (718 270-3295), Faculty Student Association Office (718 270-3187), and the Student Activities Office are located in the Student Center. Operation hours of the Student Center and of the other services located in the building are posted. They can also be obtained by calling 270-2487.
Open 17 hours daily and 8 hours each weekend day, the Student Center allows students to utilize the facility despite their hectic schedules. Many students often work at the Student Center, which is the largest employer of students on campus.
All of the over 50 Student Organizations on campus call the Student Center home as well. The Department of Student Life provides assistance with coordinating and publicizing events, including reserving rooms on campus for meetings. An annual activities fair provides an opportunity for students to become familiarized and get involved with all that Downstate?s student organizations have to offer.
Programs
• The Student Center coordinated over 500 programs for campus including; luncheons, movies, coffeehouses, happy hours, barbecues, orientations, featured speakers, training, parties, dinners, breakfasts, musical entertainment, comedy nights, film festivals, theme nights, ice cream socials, activity fairs, the AIDS quilt, and meetings; Spring Fling, he annual dinner/dance, has consistently sold out and is the largest student event during the year.
• Ninety-one members representing nine teams participated in our Intramural Basketball Program this year.
•Our Mini Course Program offered 31 courses this year with a total of 455 participants; offerings included tango, scuba, step-aerobics and swimming.
•Orientation, Awards Day, Convocation, & Commencement are several of the major programs which are coordinated through the Department of Student Life which allow tremendous opportunities for student involvement.
Community Service
Every student organization is required to perform a community service project; past projects have included the Revlon Run/Walk for Women, Bond Street Shelter Foot Clinic, Clowning Around program, Adopt-A-Family program and the annual holiday toy drive for the pediatrics wards among many others. Downstate student organizations have been recognized in each of the last two years with the Association of Council Members and College Trustees of the State University of New York Student Initiative Awards for student projects which are initiated by the students and serve to fill a need in the community. Additionally, a Downstate student organization was recognized with a citation from the Brooklyn Borough President's office for exemplary service to the community and promotion of unity in the borough.
