His residency in Diagnostic Radiology took place at the University of Maryland/Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland, where he also served as chief resident. He did a year of residency in Radiation Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and a year of Pathology at St. John's Hospital in Brooklyn. Dr Kizilay did two fellowships, one in Neuroradiology at New York University Medica Center and another in Mammography under the direction of Dr. Edward Sickles at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center. Dr. Kizilay spent four years as a Research Scientist in lymphatics at the New York University School of Medicine and received the New York State Medical Society award for Lymphatic research. Most of his career was devoted to Neuroradiology and Interventional Radiology. He is a senior member of American Society for Neuroradiology and the Society for Interventional Radiology. He's known for his skill as an angiographer, and has disseminated information to colleagues through several publications and presentations. Dr. Kizilay invented the Kizilay Angiographic Needle to enter the artery without damaging the endothelium thereby reducing the incidence of hematoma. He invented a mammography cone to facilitate taking accurate images with minimal expose to ionizing radiation. As an academician Dr. Kizilay holds high expectations of residents. His belief in comprehensive radiology has fostered his instruction of residents in most aspects of Diagnostic Imaging. He has held faculty appointments at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Medical College of Georgia, New York University and Tulane University. Journal Club at SUNY Downstate was initiated by Dr. Kizilay in 2003 and he continues to serve as coordinator and facilitator. He served as an instructor to medical, nursing, and radiation technology students. Dr. Kizilay believes in interdisciplinary collaboration and serves on the Tumor board and Cancer Committee of University Hospital of Brooklyn. As a clinician he has served varied populations including military personnel. He served as the Neuroradiologist for the troops in the Gulf war via teleradiology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and served veterans at Fort Bliss Army Medical Center in El Paso Texas as well as the Brooklyn VA medical center. Dr. Kizilay resides in Manhattan and enjoys family, photography, opera, and ballet. |
