Tel: (718) 270-6730 • Fax: (718) 270-1603 e-mail: john.amodio@downstate.edu About: Dr. John Amodio specializes in Pediatric Radiology and serves as the Program Director for the Radiology Residency since 2007. Dr. Amodio was a fellow in pediatric radiology at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in1985. He completed his radiology residency at Montefiore Medical Center in 1984 and he did his internship in Maimonides Medical Center in 1981. He received his M.D. from NY Medical College in 1980 and his B.A. from NYU in 1976. Dr. Amodio is also currently obtaining his M.Ed on-line at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Amodio is ABR certified with added qualifications in Pediatric Radiology. He is a member of the National Board of Medical Examiners. Dr. Amodio received the SUNY Downstate Award for Graduate Medical Education in 2008. He received the Great Teacher Award by the Department of Radiology of New York University in 2006, and received the Great Teacher Award by the Department of Radiology, Lenox Hill Hospital in 2002. He is on the Best Doctors in New York Metro Area Castle by Connolly Medical Ltd., received the Taussend Award for Radiologic Excellence by Montefiore Medical Center in 1983 and received the Phi Beta Kappa award by New York University in 1976. Dr. Amodio is a member of the ACR, the RSNA, the New York Roentgen Ray Society, the Society for Pediatric Radiology, the ACR Committee on Continued Professional Improvement, the American Association of Medical Colleges, the Association of University Radiologists, the Association of Medical Student Educators in Radiology, the Alternate Delegate to New York State Radiological Society and the Association of Program Directors in Radiology. He has authored or co-authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications Dr. Amodio held a number of academic appointments over the years. He was appointed Professor of Clinical Radiology at SUNY Downstate in 2008, served as Associate Professor of Radiology in New York University School of Medicine from 2005 to 2007, and Assistant Professor of Radiology in New York University School of Medicine from 2002 to 2005. He was Assistant Professor of Radiology at Columbia University from 1985 to 1987 and Instructor of Radiology at Columbia University from 1984 to 1985. Dr. Amodio also specializes in resident education, having interests in web-based education and testing, as well as computerized simulation in radiology. His educational achievements include development of a web-based curriculum for pediatric residents who are taking an elective in Pediatric Radiology. He instituted conferences in which radiology residents acquire skills in teaching fellow peers as well as those of different specialties. Dr. Amodio developed educationally relevant publications, including a pediatric radiology website, http://www.taskstream.com/ts/amodio/peds.html, which is an educational site for residents displaying recent lectures, challenging unknown cases, residency level based examinations, educational aids regarding pediatric radiology emergencies, a web based curriculum in pediatric radiology. This website serves as a major resource in the department. |
