RadiologyChest (CT/MRI)Cardio-Thoracic RadiologyThe C-T imaging section at SUNY-HSC Downstate Medical Center covers all aspects of cardio-thoracic imaging and intervention, in conjunction with the section of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology. All aspects of plain film chest and cardiac imaging are discussed, with anatomy, pathology and physiology correlation. Lectures in cardiac anatomy and physiology are given by representatives from the respective departments. CT, both enhanced and non-enhanced is done as well as high resolution CT on six CT scanners in three institutions. A new multislice, 8 slices per acquisition scanner is due for installation at UHB in the near future, enabling the performance of CT Bronchography. CT pulmonary angiography and chest venography as well as CT arteriography is done, with the teaching of the use of work stations for multiplanar reconstructions and reformatting. Correlation with catheter angiography is done as well. The Interventional division does biopsy of lung and chest wall lesions. Bronchial and SVC and esophageal stenting is performed. The evaluation of adrenal masses is performed in conjuntion with chest scanning. Magnetic Resonance scanning of the chest and heart with cardiac gating is performed for the evaluation of congenital and acquired cardiac abnormalities. MR angiography is also performed, especially if the patient cannot tolerate a CT scan. The residents are encouraged to attend the Pulmonary Division Conference as well as the combined Cardiac-CT Surgery Conferences where coronary angiograms are discussed and clinical correlation obtained. Board Review prep courses are given on all aspects of chest and cardiac imaging prior to the Oral Boards. Bi-monthly chest lectures are given to the department. |
