Background and Expertise:

Dr. Anum is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the School of Public Health at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Anum received his medical degree (MB ChB) from the University of Ghana Medical School in his native country, Ghana and for over ten years was a General Medical Practitioner. He received his master’s degree in Public Health and doctorate in Epidemiology from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) where he also completed postdoctoral training in maternal and child health among minority populations, specifically the impact of genetic and environmental factors on adverse birth outcomes among African-Americans.

Dr. Anum previously worked as an epidemiologist with the Virginia Department of Health and served as Adjunct Clinical Professor in the Epidemiology and Community Health Department at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Dr. Anum’s current research focuses on adverse birth outcomes among minority and disadvantaged populations in the United States. His other interests include prostate cancer and cardiovascular epidemiology.
