Welcome

The goal of our department is to improve the health of communities with an emphasis on the elimination of health disparities, particularly as they apply to urban and immigrant populations. Central to this goal is the development of a public health workforce skilled in delineating the complex causes of public health issues, and in working effectively and productively with diverse communities to plan, implement, and evaluate activities designed to prevent or reduce the burden of these problems. The department values partnership and actively collaborates with other departments across the University, Centers of Excellence, public and private agencies, and voluntary organizations that share our mission.

We have a multidisciplinary group of faculty, united in commitment to the department's goals. Our faculty are accomplished researchers, teachers, and public health practitioners in many of the areas that contribute most significantly to public health in our communities. Our teaching and research focus on the ways in which social, psychological, and community-level factors contribute to the health and health-related behaviors of diverse populations, and on developing methods and approaches to address these underlying factors. As such, we offer exciting opportunities for training of students seeking their MPH and DrPh degrees.

We encourage you to review our site to learn more about our academic degree programs, our faculty, and many of our current projects.

Sincerely,

Dr. Judith H. LaRosa, PhD, RN
