Welcome to the Department of Psychiatry

"In order to cure the human body, it is necessary to have knowledge of the whole of things."

Hippocrates

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at SUNY Downstate is among the largest and most diverse in the country. As the only public medical school Department of Psychiatry in New York City, and the only University Department of Psychiatry in Brooklyn, New York's most populous borough, we have a complex, multidimensional mission.

To the Downstate Community…

SUNY Downstate Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health is launching their 2014-2015 academic season of the Downstate Film Forum with Last Glimmer of Day in honor of National Suicide Prevention Month.

Last Glimmer of Day is a concise and compelling documentary that tells the story of one family's struggle with depression and the impact of the revelation of a long held family secret. It is a deeply personal story that opens a new window on the universal struggle to overcome depression. The film will be presented by Downstate's own Dr. Michael Myers, past President of the New York City Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Following the viewing Jeff Wolk, the films producer and nephew of the film's subject and Dr. Myers will lead a disscussion about the importance of this film.

The film will be shown in:
The Basic Science Building, first floor
Classroom A1
Thursday September 11th, 5:15PM-6:30PM

As always, pizza and beverages will be served.
