How to Apply
Thank you for your interest in the Pediatric Residency Program at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center and congratulations on your decision to pursue graduate medical education in pediatrics.
As the core residency program of the Department of Pediatrics at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center (the Health Science Center at Brooklyn), a major, urban, academic medical center, we enjoy the challenges of being at the forefront of medicine and the satisfaction of contributing to the science and practice of pediatrics. In addition, we have the privilege of educating medical students and other health professionals and caring for a diverse, often needy and particularly interesting population. The S.U.N.Y. Downstate Medical Center has a great deal to offer to residents in its training programs through experiences at the Children's Hospital at Downstate (at University Hospital of Brooklyn), Kings County Hospital Center, Staten Island Hospital and Lenox Hill Hospital. Our program integrates an ideal spectrum of clinical environments and experiences: a tertiary care hospital, a large and busy municipal hospital, community hospitals (in Staten Island and Manhattan), and several ambulatory settings.
We are located in the center of Brooklyn, the most populous borough of the City of New York. Within its 70 square mile area there are a range of communities, diverse ethnic groups and socioeconomic conditions from the socially ravaged to the economically privileged living in million dollar homes. Brooklyn has an unparalleled mix of neighborhoods, nationalities, lifestyles, and recreational and cultural activities along with immediate access to the rest of the 'Big Apple' and its suburbs.
The pediatric residency program participates in the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS). Only applications submitted through ERAS will be considered. We do not prescreen candidates, so all interested candidates are strongly encouraged to submit an application via ERAS. Details regarding ERAS should be obtained from your medical school?s Dean?s Office or E.C.F.M.G. for International Medical Graduates.
