Medication Safety Elective Course
The Department of Patient Safety offers a Medication Error elective to sixth year PharmD students from Long Island University’s Arnold and Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy. This 5 credit curriculum includes lectures, group discussions, case presentations, and independent study of advanced medication safety. Students will gain comprehensive knowledge of medication error and adverse drug reaction reporting and prevention, become part of a hospital-wide performance improvement initiative, and develop effective ways on how to assure new policies and procedures are maintained and improved. In addition, this elective promotes a thorough understanding of the collaboration that takes place among pharmacists, clinicians, and other health care professionals in optimizing patient care and medication safety.
