2008 RISE performance
Congratulations to our residents on their outstanding overall performance on the 2008 ASCP Resident Inservice Examination. Over half of the residents in our program had overall scores in the 90th percentile or better and 41% of all residents achieved overall scores in the 99th percentile!

Resident Presentations/Publications
Anne Igbokwe presented her work in a platform presentation and poster on “Molecular characterization and postmortem review of holoprosencephaly (HPE) cases” with faculty member and molecular pathologist Felicitas Lacbawan and M. Muenke at the Association for Molecular Pathology meeting on October, 2008 in Grapevine, Texas.

Dr. Igbokwe also co-authored the paper on malignant fibrous histiocytoma with former resident, Dr. Osama M. Al-Agha:

Malignant fibrous histiocytoma: between the past and the present. Al-Agha OM, Igbokwe AA. Arch Pathol Lab Med. 2008;132:1030-5.

Jie Ouyang, presented a poster on Bacteremia caused by Paenibacillus popilliae in a patient on hemodialysis with faculty member Matthew Pincus MD, PhD, at the CAP meeting in San Diego. Dr. Ouyang also first authored the following publication:

Paenibacillus thiaminolyticus: a new cause of human infection, inducing bacteremia in a patient on hemodialysis. Annals of Clinical and Laboratory Science (accepted for publication). Shavari Dalal, second year resident, is a co-author.

Hongbei Wang recently published the following report on an interesting case she encountered on her VA rotation:
