In the year 2008-2009, Drs. Goldstein and Mangiardi have continued work on a grant from the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology for the study of the “Comparison of Polysomnography Outcomes for Microdebrider-Assisted Partial Intracapsular Tonsillectomy versus Total Tonsillectomy”. Faculty were engaged in several research projects in various disciplines of Otolaryngology. Drs. Bibawy, Cossu, Kogan and Rosenfeld published an article in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery on their study of “Harms and Adverse Events Reporting in Otolaryngology Journals”. Drs. Bibawy and DeVries reported on their study of “Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma Arising in a Background of Sialadenoma Papilliferum” in Head and Neck Pathology. And Drs. Bibawy, Hammerschlag, Nathawad and Goldstein have begun research on “The Role of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) in Otorrhea, Following Bilateral Myringotomy and Tube Insertion”. Dr. Goldstein has continued several ongoing studies in Pediatric Otolaryngology, including the “Efficacy of Adenotonsillectomy in Pediatric Sleep-Disordered Breathing”, “Validation of a Clinical Assessment Score for Pediatric Sleep-Disordered Breathing” and “A Prospective Study of the Effect of Gastroesophageal Reflux Treatment on Children with Otitis Media”. She has just completed a study on “Angioedema: A Retrospective Chart Review of Patients Presenting to Three Tertiary Care Hospitals in Brooklyn, New York over a 10-year Period “, which will be reported on at the AAOHNS Annual Meeting in October. Most recently, she has begun studies on “The Prevalence of Sleep-Disordered Breathing in Children with Sickle Cell Disease and its Association with Increased Cerebrovascular Risk”, “Racial/Ethnic Differences in the Prevalence of Snoring and Sleep-Disordered Breathing in Young Children” , and “Unusual Presentations of Kawasaki Disease in Children”.
