The Austin Fink, MD Lectureship

Dr. Austin Fink attended the University of Michigan where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1941. He attended medical school at the Long Island College of Medicine, (1944 Graduate).

Dr. Fink studied as a medical student under Dr. John Evans who was chief of ophthalmology at the Long Island College Hospital.

Dr. Fink held a teaching position at SUNY Downstate from 1955. He earned the status of Professor in 1972. Dr. Fink was the senior associate of the teaching faculty of the ophthalmology residency at SUNY Downstate under Dr. Troutman's chairmanship.

Dr. Fink was the director of ophthalmology at Long Island College Hospital for over 20 years.

Dr. Fink was a prolific scientist. He has published over 40 articles in the scientific literature. He was recipient of a National Institute of Health research grant for the study of sickle cell disease, a subject he published extensively on. He was internationally recognized as an expert in micro-circulation of the eye.

Dr. Fink also was an expert on pediatric ophthalmology surgery. He designed instrumentation for the removal of cortical material in pediatric cataracts.

Dr. Fink earned his board certification in 1949. A well respected clinician, scientist and teacher, Dr. Fink has contributed tremendously to the field of ophthalmology not only in Brooklyn but throughout the world.

Member of numerous societies, including the American Ophthalmological Society and the Ophthalmological Society of the United Kingdom.
