Background and Expertise
Dr. Chaqour is a graduate of the College of Medicine and Sciences at University of Reims-Champagne-et-Ardennes. He performed his postdoctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania and held a Faculty position there before joining SUNY Downstate in 2004. Dr Chaqour has been a significant contributor to administration, teaching and biomedical research on campus. He has a well-established research program in the field of angiogenesis, cellular growth, fibrosis, inflammatory factor biology and mechanobiology as well as the role of specialized microenvironments in the control of fate specification of progenitor cells. His work has clinical implications in ischemic retinopathies, macular degeneration, glaucoma, etc. Dr. Chaqour has maintained a continuous extramural funding that steadily increased over the last decade. He has been recipient of multiple NIH grant awards and Private Research Foundations. His current studies on the role of the CCN proteins in retinal vessel development and pathology are supported NEI-NIH grant award. Many of Dr Chaqour's research studies have been published in highly reputable Journals. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Cell Communication and Signaling and he is an ad hoc reviewer for various Study Sections and many renown Biomedical Journals.
