Women's Health

By the end of the clerkship, the student should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate Clinical Skills in History Taking and Physical Exam
  2. Collect Properly and Interpret a Cervical Cytology — first line disposition, limitations of cervical cytology
  3. Have a thorough Grounding in Modern Contraceptive Technology
  4. Formulate a Differential Diagnosis of the “Acute Abdomen” in Obstetrics and Gynecology
  5. Know the Physiologic Adjustments that Accompany Normal Gestation including lab test results
  6. Know Embryonic and Fetal Development — What does and does not affect it and teratogenic agents
  7. Understand the Health and Well-Being of Populations — social and health policy aspect of women’s health, ethical issues — sterilization, abortion, domestic violence and adolescent pregnancy, access to prenatal care.
  8. Understand Aspects of the Menstrual Cycle including Menopause
  9. Understand the Basics of Infertility
  10. Be familiar with Antepartum and Intrapartum Care
  11. Be knowledgeable about Breast Health including breast feeding
  12. Be knowledgeable about Vaginal and Vulvar Disorders
  13. Understand Sexuality of the Patient and Physician
