  1. Disease Prevention and Health Promotion as applied through the principles of immunization, screening and counseling.

  2. Clinical Communication Skills — with an emphasis on education and negotiating agendas, the sexual history, giving bad news and promoting change

Medical History and Physical Examination focuses on the individual components of the medical history and its organization, and on the elements and technique of performing the physical examination. This content area also deals with interpreting the history and physical examination to develop differential diagnoses and to explore obstacles to successful to adherence.

  4. Evidence-based Medicine — the course examines various clinical study designs and their relative strength for providing evidence; teaches how to assess the scientific validity of studies; the use and interpretation of 2X2 tables to assess the values of screening with an emphasis on sensitivity, specificity, predictive and value

  5. Ethics — focuses on the ethics of human subject research, the ethical implications of informed consent, and respect for autonomy.

  6. Culture — examines the personal, beliefs, perspectives and experiences of individuals from various cultural backgrounds
