Block 10: Neuroscience

  1. Understanding of cellular anatomy and physiology of neurons. Review and extension of membrane physiology. These topics are introduced in the Musculoskeletal block taught earlier in the academic year (lecture and conference).
  2. Neurotransmitter systems (lectures)
  3. Autonomic nervous system integration and review (conference and CBL).
  4. Development of the nervous system at the cellular and systems levels.
  5. Gross morphology of the CNS. Extensive coverage in lecture and lab.
  6. Histology of neurons and tissues of CNS (lab).
  7. Vascular anatomy of CNS, brain metabolism, and functional imaging (lecture).
  8. Motor systems (lectures and clinical pathway exercise)
  9. Sensory systems (lectures and clinical pathway exercise)
  10. Pain (lecture)
  11. Hypothalamus, limbic System and motivation (lectures)
  12. Cognition and behavior (lecture, CBL, and conference)
  13. Learning at the cellular, systems and behavioral levels (lecture and conference).
  14. Biological basis of language (lecture and part of round table)
  15. Cognition, development and aging (round table presentation).
