The major learning objectives of the Cardiovascular Block are:

  1. Embryonic development of the heart and vasculature.
  2. Structure, histology, and function of the heart and blood vessels.
  3. Innervation of the chest and thorax.
  4. Lymphatics in the chest and thorax.
  5. Electrical excitation of the heart, ECG.
  6. Excitation-contraction coupling, properties of cardiac muscle, cardiac cycle.
  7. Hemodynamics.
  8. Vascular beds, special circulations.
  9. Endothelial function.
  10. Arterial blood pressure, central venous pressure, venous return. Regulation of cardiac output.
  11. Valvular disease, channelopathies and arrhythmias.
  12. Genetics of the cardiovascular system.
  13. Neuronal (autonomic) and hormonal regulation of the heart and vasculature.
  14. Radiology of the thorax.
