Accelerated Bachelors Degree Program in Nursing
This 15-month Accelerated BS undergraduate program at the College of Nursing, Downstate Medical Center consists of 60 credits of classroom theory and supervised clinical practice. Upon successful completion of the program, the 60 credits awarded by the College of Nursing, together with the 65 prerequisite credits for admission to the College, comprise the 125 credits required for graduation. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be awarded a BS degree with a major in nursing. These graduates will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Upon passing the NCLEX-RN, the graduates will have the license to practice as a registered nurse.
Admission Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in another discipline from an accredited college or university.
- A minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale from an accredited college or university.
- Sixty (65) semester credits from an accredited college or university including the following required prerequisite courses:
- Anatomy and Physiology I and II, with Labs (8 credits)
- Chemistry, with Lab (3-4 credits)
- Microbiology, with Lab* (3-4 credits)
- Sociology or Anthropology (6 credits)
- Psychology (6 credits)
- Humanities (12 credits)
- Statistics (3 credits)
- Two (2) letters of recommendation from a college professor, an employer or supervisor
