College of NursingMissionThe motto of the State University of New York (SUNY) is "To Learn-To Search- To Serve" which reflects the mission of the SUNY. SUNY Downstate Medical Center (DMC) has a tripartite mission: education, research and patient care. The congruence of the mission statements of the College of Nursing and SUNY DMC is reflected in the three overarching themes that characterize both mission statements: excellence in education, research and practice with culturally diverse populations in urban settings; leadership and a commitment to humane service. The Mission of the College of Nursing is:"To serve as a center of excellence. Graduates of the programs are prepared as multicultural leaders who are empowered to effect change in health policy and provide culturally competent care to diverse, under-served clients in urban community-based settings. The College of Nursing is committed to improving the health care of its urban community. Evidence-based practice, humane spirit, and clinical and academic excellence are integral to the mission of the College." |
