SUNY Downstate to Hold Annual University Hospital of Brooklyn Health Fair May 16

Brooklyn, NY – SUNY Downstate Medical Center’s University Hospital of Brooklyn will hold its 29th annual community health fair, Saturday, May 16, 2015, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  The fair is in recognition of National Hospital Week, whose theme this year is "Where Miracles Happen Every Day.” The event will take place in front of the hospital, at 445 Lenox Road, between E. 35th and E. 37th Streets, in East Flatbush.

National Hospital Week celebrates hospitals and the men and women who support the health of their communities through dedication and compassionate care. It also recognizes the miracles they help to make happen on a day-to-day basis, both large and small.

This year’s health fair will feature free health information and screenings – asthma, blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, prostate, hearing tests, vision and glaucoma screening, stroke screening, HIV testing, height and weight measurements, and clinical breast exams.

For women who are uninsured or under-insured ages 40-64 and who meet the eligibility criteria, free mammograms and Pap tests are available.  For men and women ages 50-64 who are uninsured or underinsured, a free colon cancer FIT Kit stool test is also available.

There will be free refreshments, giveaways, and raffle gifts, as well as entertainment for people of all ages, including face painting, Zumba, a lion dance, pony rides, clowns, a DJ, chair and hand massages, and music.  For more information call 718-270-3739 or 718-270-8846.
