Dr. Benardete's research focuses on molecular mechanisms of neuroprotection using an in vitro model of ischemic preconditioning in brain slices. Genome-wide changes in gene expression are studied using DNA microarrays with RNA purified from hippocampal slices. These results may have clinical applications in the future and improve outcome from various brain insults such as stroke and trauma. |
