Department of NeurosurgeryNeurointerventionalDr. Mangla's clinical and academic expertise is in the subspeciality field of diagnosis and therapy of cerebrovascular diseases, utilizing evolving diagnostic imaging techniques and innovative endovascular therapeutic approaches to complex cerebrovascular pathologies. He has advanced and developed the Clinical Neurovascular Program and Neurointerventional Endovascular Therapy Program at Downstate, having performed numerous firsts within the city of Brooklyn and/or Downstate including:
His clinical and research effort is currently focused on advancing diagnosis and therapy of hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke. He research effort has included work on numerous pioneering research projects including numerous institutional and international clinical trials (MERCI trial for acute ischemic stroke, ARUBA trial for Brain AVMS) and basic science projects in clinical imaging, neurosciences, and biomedical engineering. He is also a dedicated educator, currently developing and creating core curriculums for the Departments of Radiology, Neurosurgery, and Neurology in "Interventional Neuroradiology and Neurovascular Diagnosis and Therapy" and "Academic Research in Radiology". He has trained numerous residents and fellows in the fields of Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology. He actively enjoys teaching and mentoring students, residents, and fellows from all disciplines. Dr. Mangla's mission is to develop a clinical, research, and educational Neurointerventional Program at SUNY Downstate that will focus on expanding the safe and effective application of Neurointerventional therapy to a greater number of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke patients.
