Evoked Potentials

The University Hospital of Brooklyn Evoked Potential (EP) laboratory in directed by Dr. Ivan Bodis-Wollner, M.D., D. Sci., Professor of Neurology who is internationally known for his expertise in clinical and experimental evoked potentials.
Clinical Services
Evoked potentials are frequently useful as aids in diagnosing and localizing disorders of the central nervous system. They may detect abnormalities of central nervous system parthways which may be clinically and /or radiographically undetectable.
Visual Evoked Potentials, Auditory Evoked Potentials, and Somatosensory Evoked Potentials are performed in the UHB Evoked Potentials lab.
Clinical Research
Clinical research about visual and cognitive evoked potentials in patients with Parkinson's Disease and related neurodegenerative diseases is being performed in the Department of Neurology utilizing electrophysiologic and psychologic techniques.
Basic Science Research
The role of the striate conrtex in voluntary saccades is an active area of basic research currently being conducted in the Division of Electrophysiology in the Department of Neurology. This research is being conducted in humans using such techniques as transcranial magnetic stimulation, psychophysics, eye movement recordings, EEG, and functional MRI.
