Mail Services Tips of the Month
January 2012:
USPS Postage Increase Effective 1/22/12: The First-Class rate will increase in January 2012 from the current .44 cents to .45 cents. Prices also will change for other mailing services including Standard Mail, Periodicals and Package Services. Highlights:
- Letters (1oz.): .01 cent increase to .45 cents
- Letters additional ounces: unchanged at .20 cents
- Postcards: .03 cent increase to .32 cents
- Letters to Canada or Mexico (1oz.) .05 cent increase to .85 cents
- Letters to other international destinations: .07 cent increase to $1.05 (More Info)
USPS (United States Postal Service) 'Go Green Forever' Stamps: Make a positive impact on the environment while savings on future rate increases! These stamps will be valid even when USPS postal rates increase. The 'Go Green Forever' stamps (more detail) are sold at the Gift Shop (UHB Main Lobby/ 445 Lenox Rd), and at the University Bookstore (Student Center/ 394 Lenox Rd).

UPS (United Parcel Service): Instructions for Using UPS (more detail). External UPS Drop Boxes with Mon-Fri 6pm pick-up time at:
- Curbside at the BSB main entrance 450 Clarkson Avenue, and
- Street Garage (135 East 34th; INSIDE the garage adjacent to the security booth). The State Garage Drop Box is recommended for better security when sending valuable articles.

- Go Green Forever Stamps: Make a positive impact on the environment! The United States Postal Service now offers Go Green Forever stamps available to buy at the University Bookstore (Student Center/ 394 Lenox Rd) and the Hospital Gift Shop (UHB Main Lobby) (more detail).
- Green Packaging: Mail Services stocks environmentally friendly packaging materials provided by the USPS to give our clients "Green Options" to facilitate their shipping requirements. USPS is the only mailing and shipping company in the world to have earned “Cradle to Cradle Certification” for the environmentally friendly design of both its Priority Mail and Express Mail supplies, and a majority of ReadyPost boxes, envelopes and labels.
- Address for success: You can reduce the paper, labor, and fuel associated with mail delivery by simply addressing items properly. Improperly addressed mail re-circulating through the mail stream wastes fuel, manpower and increases cost.
- Eliminate unwanted mailings: You can help to reduce paper waste by stopping unwanted mail from being delivered to your office and home. To facilitate reduction of mail from solicitors that frequently send you “junk mail” contact the mailers directly and request them to remove you from their mailing list.
