The Othmer Cancer Center was the first center in Brooklyn to offer a full range of cancer treatments using the three major modalities: surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, all in conjunction with supportive services. Approved by the American College of Surgeons since 1947, the hospital's cancer program includes ongoing research in such areas as cancer genetics, cancer radio-sensitizers, and quality-of-life studies. The Center, directed by Frank DiPillo, MD, Chairman of Internal Medicine, offers a wellness program that is dedicated to teaching healthful living practices and runs support groups for patients.

The LICH Division of Cardiology, led by Balendu Vasavada, MD, offers comprehensive care for your heart, from early diagnosis utilizing ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Cardiac CT, and MRI to angioplasty to open clogged arteries and an arrhythmia center for pacemaker and defibrillator implantation.

The Emergency Department (ED), under the direction of Michael Lucchesi, MD, cares for over 57,000 patients annually. The Department is a 911-receiving center for New York City's Emergency Services and a Cardiac Care Center of the New York Heart Association. With five "pods" of care – cardiac, asthma, pediatrics, adult and fast-track – on-site CT-Scan and other imaging facilities, wireless registration and a "racecourse" design to facilitate easy patient flow, LICH's ED is a model of urban emergency care. It also features a separate and distinct Psychiatric ER. LICH's Emergency Department has one of the best "door to doctor" response times in the borough. The "ER" is 15,000 square feet in size. LICH has one of the fastest "door to balloon times" (life saving treatment times for heart attack victims) in New York State.

The Department of Neurology, under the chairmanship of Daniel Rosenbaum, MD, provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for people with neurological disorders. Our physicians have expertise in general neurology, both adult and pediatric, as well as subspecialties including stroke and cerebrovascular disease, neuromuscular disease, neuropathy, epilepsy, memory loss and behavior disorders, Parkinson's and movement disorders, and sleep disorders. Our Comprehensive Stroke Center provides state-of-the-art diagnosis, management and prevention of stroke and cerebrovascular disorders, by a multidisciplinary team that includes vascular neurologists, neuroscience nurses, neuroradiologists and a specially trained rehabilitation team. We have been designated a Primary Stroke Center by the New York State Department of Health, available 24/7.

The Mary Polak Oenslager Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, directed by Millicent Comrie, MD, FACOG, enjoys fully renovated facilities that serve women at every stage of life with the latest treatments and procedures. Otolaryngology (also known as ENT) is a medical specialty that involves the diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases and disorders of our ears, nose, throat and head and neck. The Thoracic Center, under the direction of Peter R. Smith, MD, FACP, FCCP and Steven Herman, MD, FACS, is a center of excellence for the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer and other chest diseases, including esophageal cancer, chest wall and mediastinal tumors, respiratory diseases and related disorders. The Thoracic Center includes other specialty centers at LICH including the Smoking Cessation Center, the Asthma Center, and the Cystic Fibrosis Center. Downstate LICH Urology, under the leadership of Ciril Godec, MD, cares for men and women with conditions of the genito-urinary system. They treat diseases of the prostate, kidney, bladder and genitals and disorders such as incontinence, impotency, infections, enlarged prostate and more. The New York Stone Center performs over 1,000 cases per year of lithotripsy to break up kidney stones,. The department specializes in "bloodless" (transfusion-free) procedures and surgeries. With over 40 Board certified urologists, it is one of the largest Urology Departments in the area.
