STAR Mental Health & Psychosocial Support
The STAR Mental Health Program, integrated into STAR Health Center (SHC) primary care services, offers full psychosocial assessment, diagnostic evaluation and treatment planning, crisis intervention, ongoing psychotherapy, and substance abuse counseling. Multiple support groups are offered for adults infected and affected by HIV. Groups focus on a variety of topics such as disclosure, gender specific issues, harm reduction and recovery. The program is staffed by a psychiatrist, social workers and substance use counselors. It offers referrals for additional services which are not on-site, such as day treatment, inpatient detoxification, methadone maintenance, alcohol day treatment and acupuncture. The program is funded by Ryan White Part B through the NYS Department of Health AIDS Institute and by Ryan White Part A through Public Health Solutions.
