PEDIATRIC AIDS CLINICAL TRIALS
The Pediatric AIDS Clinical Trials Site at SUNY Downstate Medical Center offers HIV positive children the opportunity to participate in ACTG protocols. Participants receive comprehensive primary care, case management services and neurodevelopmental assessments. The trials are funded by the National Institute of Child and Human Development (NICHD).
Pediatric ACTG
ACTG 300
To compare the efficacy of 3TC/AZT combination vs. the better of ddI monotherapy, vs. AZT/ddI combination in symptomatic HIV+ children and adolescents, ages 3 months to 15 years who have received 56 days or no antiretroviral therapy.
ACTG 219
A study for any child previously or currently enrolled in a treatment study. This study will look at nutrition, growth, survival, quality of life and clinical condition up to age 21.
Future Trials
ACTG 338
A Rolling Arm Master Protocol (PRAM) for HIV infected children ages 2 years to 17 years. This study will evaluate different treatment combinations on children who have been in >24 weeks of antiretroviral therapy and stable. Meds: AZT + 3TC vs. D4T + Ritonavir vs. AZT + 3TC + Ritonavir.
