NYS AIDS International Training & Research Program

The goal of the SUNY AIDS International Training Center is to train health care practitioners from Central and Eastern Europe on preventing and treating HIV disease and tuberculosis. These specialized fellowships provide broad-based exposure to many aspects of a public health education in the United States, which is supplemented by hands-on clinical training in SUNY's STAR Health Center and Kings County Hospital Center's (KCHC) Pediatric/Maternal Clinic. Training opportunities include MS/MPH degrees in Epidemiology and post-doctoral laboratory training, provided in conjunction with the NYS Department of Health, and State University of New York (SUNY) at Albany School of Public Health. In addition to HIV-related programs, the NYSDOH is funded to provide training in emerging infectious diseases for scientists from the same countries. Short-term trainings are also provided in the US and in-country. Selected trainees may qualify for additional grant funding for advanced research in their home countries. This program is funded by Fogarty International Center of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
