Filco Carting

Filco Carting, a pioneer in the evolution of waste removal and recycling is the waste management company responsible for collecting and recycling the trash generated at SUNY Downstate. Through a process called source segregation, Filco is able to separate all the trash, pulling out paper, cans and other materials. However, this service comes at an additional cost which we can reduce by source segregating here on campus. Filco is a willing partner in helping Downstate to recycle here on campus. They have experience with health care facilities and have implemented a successful recycling program at Lutheran hospital which we hope to duplicate.

Some Facts About Filco:

Filco is the first NYC commercial waste and recycling hauler to use low decibel, non-polluting, compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks to service Manhattan. These trucks far exceed DOT noise level standards for all types of commercial vehicles operating in NYC. They emit no noxious diesel fumes. In fact, they exceed EPA certified emissions standards of 1.4 grams NOx and 0.01 grams of particulates.
Filco's recovery facility recycles a variety of materials including; paper, wood, plastic, metal and more. We increase revenues, reduce disposal costs and divert these materials from landfill.
