Dennis Castillo, DPM was appointed to the faculty of the Department of Family Medicine in March 1996. Dr. Castillo came into our department in order to serve as an on-site podiatrist at Family Health Services. Throughout the ensuing years, he has provided high-quality, patient-centered foot care to the patients of this facility.

Dr. Castillo brought a wealth of experience in the field of health care to his role at family Health Services. He served as a Clinical Specialist in the U.S. Army from 1972 until 1976. After working for a short time during 1976-77 as a claims adjuster for Blue Cross/Blue Shield in New York, Dr. Castillo worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the VA Hospital in Brooklyn from 1977-1980, while concurrently completing a Bachelor of Science degree at Long Island University, where he trained as a physician assistant. During the 1980s, Dr. Castillo served as a physician assistant at Montefiore Medical Center (Elmhurst, New York), the VA Hospital (Brooklyn), Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center (Brooklyn), and Prospect Hospital (Bronx, New York). From 1985 until 1990, Dr. Castillo attended New York College of Podiatric Medicine, where he earned the Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree in 1990. Dr. Castillo has been a practicing podiatrist since 1990. Dr. Castillo arrived at SUNY Downstate Medical Center to establish a podiatry practice in 1993, in association with the Department of Surgery.
