Epilepsy Center Faculty
Luba Nakhutina, PhD
Dr. Nakhutina earned her PhD in Psychology at The Graduate Center of the City University of New York, Neuropsychology Subprogram. She completed her internship in neuropsychology at Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard University in Boston, and post-doctoral fellowship training at the NYU Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. She joined SUNY Downstate faculty as an Assistant Professor in 2008. Dr. Nakhutina specializes in neuropsychological assessment of patients with cognitive problems associated with neurological, psychiatric, and medical illness. Her main clinical and research interests include cognitive and behavioral functioning in epilepsy, memory disorders, interventions targeting cognitive problems, as well as bilingualism and cultural factors as they impact neuropsychological assessment. Dr. Nakhutina has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented her research at national conferences. She is a member of the International Neuropsychological Society, American Psychological Association, National Academy of Neuropsychology, and is also on the board of directors of the New York Neuropsychology Group. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling abroad to learn about different cultures and their history. She is fluent in Russian and has expertise in neuropsychological assessment of Russian-speaking patients.
