Ashesh Mehta, MD, PhD


Ashesh Mehta, MD, PhD, is the epilepsy neurosurgeon for the Downstate Medical Center Comprehensive Epilepsy Program. Based at North Shore-LIJ Health System, he also participates fully in the evaluation and surgical treatment of DMC's epilepsy patients. He is the Director of Epilepsy Surgery and Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine. Dr. Mehta received his MD and PhD in Neuroscience from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed his residency in neurosurgery at Cornell University-New York Presbyterian Hospital. He has subspecialty training in surgical neuro-oncology from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and in epilepsy surgery from New York University Medical Center. Dr. Mehta has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles for medical journals, and book chapters in neurosurgery, neurophysiology and epilepsy surgery. He has been featured on national television as an expert in epilepsy surgery. He currently has NIH funding to develop innovative therapies for epilepsy, and serves as Director of the Multimodal Brain Mapping Laboratory at North Shore LIJ. Dr. Mehta is an active member of the American Epilepsy Society, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, American Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, Society for Neuroscience and is a fellow of the American Board of Neurological Surgery.
