Course Description
Students seeking an in-depth experience in Pediatric Emergency Medicine may register for this elective. During the four-week rotation, students will do sixteen 8-hour shifts in the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Department of Kings County Hospital Center and University Hospital of Brooklyn. Students will evaluate acute medical and surgical problems in children under the supervision of a faculty member. Students will act as the primary care giver for selected patients and will be part of the resuscitation team caring for critically ill and injured children. A general Emergency Medicine lecture series comprised of 12 lectures covering both adult and pediatric topics and attendance at resident conferences relevant to pediatrics is required as part of the course. Students are also required to do a formal case presentation at the end of the course.
