Course Description
Senior medical students will participate in the daily activities of University Hospital of Brooklyn and the Kings County Hospital Center Emergency Department; amongst the most active in the United States. Each student rotates through the diagnostic medical and surgical areas, the asthma room, the critical and trauma areas, and the minor surgery/orthopedics area. Students will be working with full-time attendings. Lectures are given by faculty, in addition to weekly teaching conferences and monthly grand rounds. Attendance on clinical shifts as well as student specific lectures is mandatory. Students should not register for months where they anticipate many residency interviews. Critical research is ongoing and student participation is encouraged. Specific students lectures are given once a week by faculty and senior residents. In addition, students participate in daily morning case discussions and weekly departmental conferences. Maximum enrollment 30 students--20 Downstate students, 10 Visiting students. Students are also required to do a formal case presentation at the end of the course in addition to one EMS ambulance ride.
