Reaffirmation of Non-Discrimination Policy
Downstate Medical Center is committed to fostering a diverse community of outstanding faculty, staff, and students, as well as ensuring equal educational opportunity, employment, and access to services, programs, and activities, without regard to an individual's race, color, national origin, religion, creed, age, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, familial status, pregnancy, predisposing genetic characteristics, military status, domestic violence victim status, or criminal conviction, in the recruitment and treatment of students; recruitment, selection, hiring, training, promotion, termination and other working conditions, such as benefits, compensation and transfers for faculty and staff; or the operation of any of Downstate's programs and activities. It is the intention of Downstate to develop and expand the programs set out in its Strategic Plan that will strengthen these policies. Employees, students, applicants or other members of the community may not be subjected to harassment that is prohibited by law, or treated adversely or retaliated against based upon a protected characteristic. In partnership with existing University of Brooklyn Hospital efforts, ODI pursues the maintenance and expansion of cultural competence to increase health equity by taking into account the diversity of patients at University Hospital and its Affiliated Hospitals.
