Downstate Lipid and Vascular Biology Club
The Club started functioning on March 31, 2000. Three individuals played key roles in the development of this club. First. Dr. John C. LaRosa, President of the Downstate Medical Center, conceived the idea of the club and provided leadership and financial support. Second, Dr. Siddiqui, Director of the Center for Cardiovascular and Muscle Research, provided administrative support. Third, Ms. Maureen Wirth, Merck and Company, promised financial support and moral encouragement for the club. These individuals continue to play major roles in the ongoing success of the club.
The major aim of the club is to foster companionship, collaborations, and collegial atmosphere amongst the members of the club and Downstate community at large. It is hoped that such an effort will result in the development of new collaborative research projects such as training grants, program projects, and SCOR grants.
The club members usually meet twice a month. In the first meeting of the month, we usually have a guest speaker. In the second meeting, Downstate participants present their work. Participants gather at 11:45 A.M and have a modest lunch. Speakers start presenting their work promptly at Noon.
The attached tables provide the list speakers who have presented their work to the club in the last two years
