Alumni Association - College of MedicineThe Mentoring ProgramThe Alumni Association — College of Medicine, in conjunction with the Dean's office run the Mentoring and Alumni Career Mentoring Programs.
The Mentoring Program is designed to provide an avenue of support and friendship to first year medical students as they need it. First year students are matched with clinical faculty mentors, and second year student co-mentors. Faculty mentors can answer questions about what being a physician entails and may provide students with an exposure to patients and clinical practice. Student co-mentors can address questions about studying, taking exams and surviving the first year. Alumni Career Mentoring ProgramThe Alumni Career Mentoring Program offers students the opportunity to visit a physician in his/her office.
Students get to see first hand how medicine is practiced in a range of settings and fields such as surgery, anesthesiology and emergency medicine. We also provide panel presentations at SUNY Downstate where alumni visit the school and share their specialty with groups of students. Please contact Mrs. Dionne Davis-Lowe, the Mentoring and Alumni Career Program Coordinator at (718)270-7593 or dionne.davis@downstate.edu, if you have any questions or would like additional information.
