Alumni Association - College of Medicine

Alumni Career Mentoring Program

career day

The Alumni Association- College of Medicine, in conjunction with the Dean's Office of the College of Medicine jointly run the new Alumni Career Mentoring Program: This program provides a means for students to meet local alumni practitioners who have volunteered to spend up to two days with a medical student in their office.

The purpose of this program is to give medical students the opportunity for additional exposure to a range of fields to help them select their chosen specialty. Students get to see first hand how medicine is practiced in a range of settings and fields such as surgery, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, etc…

To enhance student career advisement the Alumni Association held its second annual Alumni Career Day on Friday 7/6/07 for third year medical students. The Alumni Association held a full day of panel presentations covering 15 specialties. Students could choose to attend the 2 panels of greatest interest to them. Breakfast and lunch were provided, as well as plenty of opportunity for questions and answers. The student feedback was terrific, advising that all the panel series were extremely informative, helpful and interesting. Students strongly recommended that this be offered again next year.

Please contact Mrs. Dionne Davis-Lowe, the Mentoring Program Coordinator at (718)270-7593 or dionne.davis@downstate.edu. if you have any questions or would like additional information.
