June, 2012: It's busting out! The first of June is here and it’s a day we can take a stand – for children. The website, www.stand.org , will provide you with more information. June 1st is Stand for Children Day and June 10th is National Children’s Day (www.nationalchildrensday.us ). We elders of our communities have an obligation to help our future generations, whether we have children or not. For all our sakes, June 2012 represents National Safety Month (www.nsc.org) and this is important not only for our offspring and youth of our communities but for adults. The weather turns toward summer and more of us go outside, on the streets or in the fields and parks and woods. This can lead to injuries – some serious – including following typical summer recreation activities such as bike riding (HELMETS, PLEASE!) and swimming (KNOW YOUR LIMITS! DON’T SWIM AT BEACHES WHEN THE RED FLAG IS UP!). Let’s set a great example to youngsters and be safe out there in June!
