August 2010: Enjoy The Summer Weather!

It's time for us to go to http://www.immunize.org because as adults we still require a review of our immunizations. With the resurgence of some childhood illnesses we assumed were vanquished, such as pertussis (whooping cough), this may help you save a child's life. You can also save your own (such as getting that tetanus booster!).

It's actually National Immunization Month (http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines) so we have a bit of reading to do!

August is for fun in the sun but did you know that too much sun eventually causes cataracts? Log onto http://www.aao.org for more information about protecting your eyes even if you don't normally wear sunglasses or need eyeglasses at all.

It's National Health Center Week from 08-14 August 2010. Go to http://www.healthcenterweek.com for all the details, but here is the admirable goal at the 45th anniversary of this celebration taken from the abovementioned website:

The second week of August each year is dedicated to recognizing the service and contributions of Community, Migrant, Homeless and Public Housing Health Centers in providing access to affordable, high quality, cost-effective health care to medically vulnerable and underserved people in the U.S. This year's commemoration is special because 2010 also marks the 45th Anniversary of the creation of the Health Centers Program.
