February 2008: Affairs of the Heart
Welcome to the Year of the Rat (lunar calendar)! And to a year of red.
Women, it’s time.
Time to acknowledge that it is heart disease, not breast cancer, that is the NUMBER ONE KILLER OF WOMEN IN THE U.S.A.
Wearing red this month will call attention to that, and to the fact that it is Heart Month. We can prepare for National Cardiac Rehabilitation Week (11-17 February) by exercising and ensuring proper nutrition are both parts of our daily lives.
Red isn’t just for Valentine’s Day!
Think of how often your heart will beat in your entire lifespan. Keeping that muscle in good working order should be primary, because if it isn’t healthy, how can we live a long and enjoyable life?
What else warms the heart?
February 11-17 is also Random Acts of Kindness Week. That is sure to keep your heart in good shape!
Finally, February is also Wise Health Consumer Month. The Institute of Preventive Medicine (http://www.healthylife.com/template.asp?pageID=14 ) can give you keen insights into how to take care of yourself and your family members. As they say, an apple a day is not enough; there’s more to be done!
So in this month of good fortune for those born in the year of the rat, bring better fortune to yourself and your loved ones by ensuring heart health for all.
