Alumni Association School of Graduate Studies

President's Letter

Dear Fellow Alumni:

Welcome to the site of the newly established Alumni Association of the School of Graduate Studies (AASGS) at SUNY Downstate Medical Center at Brooklyn. I hope that you will visit it often and become a participant in the activities of the Association.

As graduate schools go, ours has always been small in terms of student numbers. But with the current count of alumni at over 450, we have finally reached the critical mass needed for a viable alumni organization.

Many of you have responded to a survey which was mailed in March 2003 to all Alumni. The survey aimed to gauge your interest in being active members of the Association. As a result, we now have an 18-member Executive Board. We held our first meeting on April 1, 2004 at Downstate; and the second meeting on October 23, 2004 in San Diego, during the Neuroscience conference.

This site will keep you abreast of the School's and Association's happenings and programs. In addition, it houses the Alumni database, where you can look up your classmates and securely update your own record.

The establishment of our Alumni Association coincides with the fast-approaching 40th Anniversary of the School of Graduate Studies. The Association plans to mark the event in March 2006 with celebrations and the first reunion of the Alumni. We invite you to get involved in the planning and preparations.

To realize our mission, we formed a number of committees to spearhead programs and activities. These committees need your contributions; their success will depend on your participation. Please Get Involved.

I look forward to working with you for the benefit of our alma mater.
