Dr. Kaplan has extensive experience in providing occupational therapy services to children and families. She has completed formal training in neurodevelopmental treatment and has expertise in the use of assistive technology. Research interests include normative studies of grip and pinch strength in pre-school children, clinical reasoning processes used by pediatric occupational therapists, school based practice, and outcomes of early intervention. Dr. Kaplan is Program Director of the Early Intervention Certification Program for Occupational Therapists, a federally funded educational program at SUNY Downstate for licensed occupational therapists who plan to specialize in therapeutic intervention for young children and their families. In addition, Dr. Kaplan coordinates the Admissions Process for the Occupational Therapy Program and teaches Foundations of Occupational Therapy, Assistive Technology, Research Methods and Pediatrics.
