A graduate of the Occupational Therapy Program at the University of Southern California, and the Psychology Program at North Central University, Dr. Handler has extensive clinical background as an occupational therapy practitioner in community adult mental health settings. In addition to being an occupational therapist, she is an artist. Drawing upon her dual experiences as therapist and artist, she has conducted numerous art seminars in Los Angeles, New York, London, and Israel, facilitating the creative process through exploration of personal images from within. Her clinical experience includes programs for homeless mentally ill clients, as well as individuals with dual diagnosis, cognitive disability, and developmental disability. Current research interests are the relationship between emotional intelligence and fieldwork performance, and creative expression through the use of painted imagery. Her primary role at SUNY Downstate is the coordination of all aspects of students' fieldwork experiences.
