With 20 years experience as an occupational therapist, Cheryl Butler's work has focused on empowering families and children with developmental disabilities. At United Cerebral Palsy, Professor Butler was a leader in developing pilot programs for preschool children and their families. She has worked in several early intervention programs and created an innovative private practice model for children aged 6 months to 3 years old. Her private practice, "BEFORE 3", was designed as a family friendly space with a library, living room, kitchen and rest areas which allow occupational therapy to be provided within the context of family routines.
Professor Butler also has training in hippo therapy and provides therapeutic horseback riding to children and their families, In addition, she is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Occupational Therapy at New York University. She teaches Therapeutic Occupations, OT Theory & Practice IV: Developmental Assessment, assists in Assistive Technology, Kinesiology and Palpation Labs, and serves as OT Program Coordinator for Medical Sciences.
