Program Chairperson Ronnie Lichtman is delighted to announce the recent publication of her newest book, Dr. Guttmacher's Pregnancy, Birth and Family Planning. She was fortunate to be asked to update and revise the oldest pregnancy guide for women and families, a book that was revolutionary when first written by Dr. Guttmacher in the 1930s. With its content almost wholly revised or completely new and a voice that reflects the 21st century, Pregnancy, Birth and Family Planning provides comprehensive information on just about anything a woman could want to know about these topics, while maintaining a philosophy of the normalcy of pregnancy. The book emphasizes a woman's right to choose between a doctor or midwife for her health care and gives her plenty of information to help in making that choice. Written with two physician colleagues, it is an example of successful interdisciplinary collaboration. The revised content of Pregnancy, Birth and Family Planning includes:
Ronnie Lichtman, CNM, LM, PhD, FACNM GynecologyValerie Roe, CNM, LM, MS, FACNM Health Care Policy

Aleida Llanes-Oberstein has authored another chapter entitled Perinatal Healthcare of Cuban Women. The chapter, which focuses on Cuban immigrant women in the United States, is the result of her work in Cuba in 1997 and 1998, and her research of Cuban immigrant women during the past several years. The challenges of Cuban immigrant women are detailed along with the impact that the Cuban healthcare system has had on their health status. Now published by the American Academy of Pediatrics. The second edition, which will be published by the National Perinatal Association, is expected during the fall of 2011.
